Gregory Hitt received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988, as a graduate of the Plan II Honors Program. Mr. Hitt graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1992, and immediately went to work for a mid-sized Austin, Texas law firm, Small, Craig & Werkenthin (now Jackson Walker). When Mr. Hitt opened his own law practice, he committed himself to providing personal service to his clients. He personally investigates, prepares and tries the cases he accepts, resulting in an intimate knowledge of the facts of each case, as well as its strengths and weaknesses. Mr. Hitt is accessible–occasionally answering his own phone, though a full-time receptionist/secretary usually handles incoming calls. Mr. Hitt promptly returns telephone messages. In the area of family law, Mr. Hitt has handled divorce, custody disputes, division of assets and debts, modifications of prior orders, enforcement actions, name changes, and other matters. Mr. Hitt has received training in collaborative law, a new form of alternative dispute resolution for family law cases. Mr. Hitt has drafted wills and other planning documents for many clients, and has represented clients in will contests. Mr. Hitt has represented general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and an engineer in a variety of cases, including bond claims under the McGregor Act involving public works projects, collection cases, professional liability, and breach of contract cases.

As an interested citizen and attorney, Mr. Hitt attended the Supreme Court Advisory Committee hearings on changes to the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure pertaining to evictions, and participated in the Ad Hoc Committee meeting designed to work toward solutions to problems presented by the current eviction rules.

Mr. Hitt is committed to providing quality, cost-effective legal representation. His philosophy is that knowledge of the client’s issues and objectives, as well as preparation, knowledge of the law, investigation of the facts, and proper evaluation can often prevent the necessity of lengthy and expensive litigation.
